SPARRING

Sparring is a great way to get more real world practice and to put your skills to use. Columbia Tae Kwon Do competes in the Eastern Collegiate Taekwondo Conference (ECTC). Here is an overview of how sparring works.

Competitors are split up into different divisions based upon their belt level. The divisions are:
Women's A-Team or Men's A-Team (Black Belts and below)
Women's B-Team or Men's B-Team (Red Belts and below)
Women's C-Team or Men's C-Team (Green Belts and below)

Each division is comprised of at least one team, which consists of 3 competitors plus up to 2 alternates. Each team will consist of one lightweight competitor, one middleweight competitor, and one heavyweight competitor. The alternates may be of any weight division. The weight divisions are defined as follows:

Light
Men 0-145.0 lbs
Women 0-117.0 lbs.

Middle
Men 145.1-172.0 lbs
Women 117.1-137.0 lbs

Heavy

Women over 137.0 lbs
